Hindustan Aeronautics working on turning Chetak helicopter into UAV

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and the Indian Navy are working on a project to convert a Chetak helicopter into an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Code-named Project NRUAV (Naval rotor unmanned aerial vehicle), the vehicle after conversion can perform all the manoeuvres of helicopters, including ship-borne features. The converted UAV will be deployed for reconnaissance with full payload.

HAL will take up recording Chetak's every flight moment for drawing up control laws and processing by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Malad in Mumbai.
