ASC frontrunner for $12B contract

The ASC shipyard at Osborne has been named by Defence Minister Brendan Nelson as the frontrunner for new submarine contracts.

Likely to be worth $12 billion over the next 25 years, the contracts could result in six to eight Collins-class submarines being built and about $4 billion in maintenance work.

Dr Nelson also told The Advertiser several nations had raised the possibility of buying Collins-class submarines.
