India's Defence secy wants Russia to deliver on time

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usA high level Indian delegation is in Russia to stress that delivery schedules of contracted weapon systems, including aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, should be maintained at all costs.

Sources said the delegation, including defence secretary Shekhar Dutt and Navy's controller of warship production and acquisition Vice-Admiral B S Randhawa, have told Russia that "far greater resources" should be deployed in the ongoing refit of the 44,570-tonne Admiral Gorshkov at Severodvinsk.

Though the carrier, rechristened INS Vikramaditya, was initially supposed to join the Indian Navy by August 2008, as per the $1.5 billion (Rs 6,900 crore) package deal signed with Russia in January 2004, India is now ready to wait till early-2009.
