BAE presses on thanks to its new machinery

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usA newly-installed special steel press will be used by BAE to make dome ends for the pressure hulls of British and Spanish submarines.

The press was bought from the Motherwell Bridge company in Scotland for £2m and restored and reassembled in Barrow.

BAE needs it to ensure future production for Astute class submarines — which could ultimately number eight in total, and for up to four new giant subs carrying Trident missiles to replace the Vanguard class.
