S. Korea aims to develop GPS-guided missiles

South Korea said Wednesday it would spend 43 billion won (US$45 million) to develop Global Positioning System (GPS)-guided missiles by 2012.

The project is aimed at equipping currently-used missiles on fighter jets with the advanced navigational and surveying system, according to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

"If the development of the system is completed, it would enable normal bombs to be used as precisely-guided weapons," the agency said.
