Pakistan plans to acquire three new advanced submarines as part of its naval expansion plans.
This will be in addition to the three Agosta class submarines the country built in Karachi last year with assistance from a French company.
German and French firms are reportedly bidding to win the Rs 77 billion (one billion euro) contract to sell their own advanced versions of conventional non-nuclear submarines.
"We will offer (Pakistan) Marlin submarines to compete with the German bid for its U-212 submarines," French Defence Ministry spokesman Jean-Francois Bureau told Daily Times.
