New engines for Saudi F-15s

RSAF F-15s in formationThe US Defence Department notified Congress of a possible $1.5 billion sale to Saudi Arabia of new or refurbished engines for its F-15 fighter aircraft.

The Royal Saudi Air Force 'is considering re-enginning its 70 F-15S aircraft, or undertaking a massive recovery/re-systainment plan of the current engines, or a combination of both,' the Defence Security and Cooperation Agency said.

It said the Saudis were considering either buying 155 General Electric (GE) F110-GE129 engines, or 20 Pratt and Whitney F100-PW229 engines to restore or refurbish its current inventory of Pratt and Whitney engines.

'The estimated cost is $1.5 billion,' the agency said.
