U.S. Successfully Destroys Incoming Missile In Defense Shield Test

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has successfully completed a developmental flight test, less than a week after a North Korean long-range missile launch ended in failure.

Officials say the MDA tested a "major element of its ballistic missile defense system," without incident at the White Sands Missile Range, in New Mexico.

According to the Pentagon, the test involved "parts of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to ensure they work together. The THAAD components include truck-mounted launchers, interceptor missiles, radars, and fire control and communications management."
