Handover of HMS Visby and HMS Härnösand

Visby Class

At a formal ceremony held in Karlskrona, Kockums handed over HMS Visby and HMS Härnösand to the client FMV, the Swedish Defence Matériel Administration. Three ships in the Visby Class is now handed over. The fourth vessel of the series is scheduled for handover to FMV end of August this year. Then there also will be a launching ceremony of the fifth ship, HMS Karlstad.

Each vessel, which is constructed of carbon fibre, features fully developed stealth technology. The term “stealth” comprises anything and everything that serve to reduce radar, magnetic and acoustic signatures and signals emissions, with a view to hindering and preventing detection and identification. The vessel are extremely difficult to detect by radar or by other modern and sophisticated sensors.

HMS Visby and HMS Härnösand is two of the Swedish Navy´s most advanced vessels, built to play a key role in Sweden´s new and modern rapid response force. Martin Hagbyhn, president of Kockums, handed over the two ships.
