Japan and US to test missile interceptor technology together


As a part of a combined missile defense program, Japan and the United States will carry out their first joint test on March 9th. The test will examine the success of a sophisticated new technology of a missile interceptor developed by Japan.

According to sources from the US government, the technology that is to be tested is called a nosecone and is an important part of the protecting sensors that get detached from a missile interceptor when it encounters an approaching ballistic missile. The March 9th experiment which is to be held off the Hawaii coast will test whether the nosecone separates from the interceptor while it is in the air.

The sources also informed that a different test which was meant to check the functionality of an infra-red sensor has been called off.
