Surface-to-air and anti-ship missile systems to be tested

Kidd-class destroyerA live-fire exercise featuring two of Taiwan's main missile systems will be held later this week at sea off the island's east coast to showcase the armed forces' defense capability, local media reported yesterday.

The exercise, to be held on Sep. 26 and 27, will feature the U.S.-made Standard Missile 2 (SM-2) surface-to-air missile and the locally developed Hsiung Feng III (HF-3, 雄風三型飛彈) “Brave Wind” surface-to-surface supersonic anti-ship missile, two Chinese-language newspapers reported yesterday.

During the upcoming exercises, the Navy will send its Kidd-class destroyers to test-fire the SM-2 surface-to-air missiles deployed on the warships, reports said.
