BAE and United States locked in battle over South Korean order

Eurofighter TyphoonA dogfight for a £5.5 billion contract between BAE’s Eurofighter Typhoon, Lockheed’s part-British F-35 Lightning and Boeing’s F-15 Silent Eagle will take place in South Korea this week, with billions of pounds of British exports at stake.

A key meeting in Seoul on Tuesday is likely to decide which aircraft will be chosen to meet the country’s need for 60 new jets.

Britain’s BAE is part of the consortium which makes the Typhoon, but UK firms including BAE and Martin-Baker also contribute vital technology to the F-35 worth 15 per cent of the cost.
