The aircraft carrier USS Enterprise is scheduled to arrive home at Naval Station Norfolk on Sunday, its final homecoming after 51 years of military service, the Navy announced Tuesday.In all, more than 5,500 sailors and Marines assigned to the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group will reunite with families and friends after a 7.5-month deployment that took them to the Mediterranean and Arabian seas.
The other ships in the strike group are the guided-missile destroyers Porter, Nitze and James E. Williams, all based in Norfolk. The strike group also includes Carrier Air Wing 1, composed of numerous squadrons of fighters, helicopters and early-warning aircraft.
