£60m deal to prepare Portsmouth Naval Base for carriers

Queen Elizabeth class |The Ministry of Defence is inviting firms to bid for a £60m contract to build a new berth and jetty for the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers at Portsmouth Naval Base.

Firms can apply for the work that includes dredging the existing channel to make it deeper and wider for the 65,000-tonne warships.

The jetties will be extensively refurbished to boost electricity supply to the carriers via a new substation located at the base.
