US Presses Taiwan for $16 Billion Arms Deal

P3C OrionStephen Young, director of the American Institute in Taiwan, urged the Taiwanese General Assembly to new weapons that were suggested by United States to help the island defend itself against rival China.

Young told reporters on Thursday at a press conference that the Thai General Assembly should approve the bill which would allow the purchase of American weapons. He was referring to a $16 billion weapons deal for the supply of Patriot PAC-III anti-missile systems, P3C anti-submarine aircraft and conventional submarines for Taiwan.
