HAL's next: Upgradation of MiG-29s in 2008


The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will begin upgrading the Indian Air Force's (IAF) air superiority Russian fighter MiG-29s from 2008.

The HAL Managing Director (MiG) KP Puri, from the Nasik-based MiG complex, told TOI on Saturday that the IAF had about 70 MiG-29 fighter aircraft in its squadrons and they would come up for an upgradation programme with the Defence PSU major in a couple of years from now.

Talking about the HAL's future programme and plans, Puri, who was in town to address participants of the first national Aerospace Olympiad hosted by the Aeronautical Society of India-Chandigarh branch here, said the HAL would also sell about 10 Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters to Chile for which a contract was to be signed in another 10 months.
